Government funding available for a new childcare app or website

Thursday, January 22, 2015

Up to £200,000 of funding is available for the development of a digital ‘one-stop-shop’ that provides parents with childcare information.

The Department for Education (DfE) and Innovate UK, a public body concerned with innovative technology, are offering funding to develop a website or app that helps parents find out about the different childcare options available to them ‘quickly and easily’.

The website or app must be engaging and innovative and help parents make informed decisions about what childcare is best for their children, taking into account a wide range of factors. It should be easy to use and provide timely, accurate data.

According to the DfE, while there are a number of ‘market-led’ websites and apps that help parents to find suitable childcare, none has achieved the status of the ‘place to go’, and none provide comprehensive information about the entire range of childcare options.

A briefing event for potential applicants will be held by the DfE next month.

To register your interest in attending the event email Hannah.yates@education.gsi.gov.uk by 31 January.
