Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock, scientist and presenter of ‘The Sky at Night’, is just one of an impressive line-up of experts appearing at the Nursery World Show 2018.

Our flagship event is back at Islington’s Business Design Centre on 2 and 3 February 2018, with a packed programme of CPD-certified seminars and masterclasses, a free exhibition showcasing all the latest equipment, resources and services, Live Theatre presentations, a Nutrition Zone and more.

Friday’s masterclass, ‘How children learn: inspiring, supporting, teaching’, runs from 9.30-12.30. Dr Aderin-Pocock will talk about her life and career, how she overcame barriers to academic success, and what she wants the early years sector to strive for through the EYFS curriculum. A team from Effra Nursery School will share their adventures in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics), and Julie Fisher, 2017 winner of our Lifetime Achievement Awards, will look at how to be an effective educator.

On Saturday, 9.30-12.30, the hot topic is ‘Boys’ learning: rethinking gender and early years practice’, with Gary Wilson, leading authority on raising boys’ achievement; Dr Jo Warin, researcher on men in childcare; the ever-popular Alice Sharp on the Approved by Dads training project; and a Bristol children’s centre team on action research into boys’ literacy.

Hour-long seminars across the two days include:

  • Dr Kay Mathieson on child behaviour
  • Tamsin Grimmer on school readiness
  • Penny Tassoni on the Characteristics of Effective Learning
  • Marc Faulder on technology and the enabling environment
  • Gill Jones with an Ofsted update
  • Judith Twani on role play
  • Anne O’Connor on block play
  • Plus choosing picture books, Reggio Emilia, communication and language, maths, physical development, self-regulation, SEND and much more.

More than 100 companies will be exhibiting their products, services and resources, and offering advice on choosing the best for your setting.

Special features will include:

  • The free Live Theatre with best practice and resources demonstrations
  • The Nursery Nutrition Zone full of lively, practical cookery sessions
