Child Safety Week aims to prevent childhood accidents

Friday, May 12, 2017

The Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) will be holding its annual Child Safety Week from 5 to 11 June.

This year the theme is 'Safe Children – Sharing is Caring', and offers those working in the early years sector a positive opportunity to engage with children and families and reduce the number of local children suffering serious accidents.

This year, the campaign aims to remind participants that everyone carries a responsibility for preventing accidents among children. Those taking part are encouraged to get in touch and share their experience in order to help parents and children make simple changes to keep safe.

Last year, more than 450,000 parents, carers, children and young people joined in Child Safety Week activities.

Anyone can sign up to be automatically alerted when free support resources become available and to get a link to free downloadable activities for children and families.

They include games about road safety, how to stay safe at the beach, and information about the risks of burns and scalds around the home.

The action pack provides information about some of the most common causes of child accidents and how to prevent them, including choking, poisoning, falls and drowning.
