CACHE chief exec resigns

Friday, March 14, 2014

Rob Wye is to step down as chief executive of awarding body CACHE next month.

An interim chief executive will be named shortly and the board of trustees has started the process to recruit a permanent new chief executive in the next few weeks.

Mr Wye, who took up the position last July, said he had decided to leave ‘after much thought and reflection’ to work at the ‘sharp end’ of teaching and learning.

‘I have greatly enjoyed my time working with CACHE and all the many colleagues I have got to know and work with over the last year,' he said.

'I am making this announcement after much thought and reflection.

‘I have found that my true passion lies in being closer to the “sharp end” of helping to improve the delivery of teaching and learning and to making a difference to the wider policies of education and training.

'My position has been further compounded by having to be away from home all week, every week, which I do find a great strain.’

He added, ‘CACHE is a great organisation, delivering high quality with passion, professionalism and commitment. CACHE has a great future as it builds on its heritage in childcare and expands more widely into care, health and education, both in the UK and internationally. ‘

Mr Wye will leave on 17 April.

Marilyn Hawkins, chair of CACHE, said, ‘We would like to thank Rob for all he has done for CACHE and wish him every success for the future.

'The board will be starting over the coming weeks the process of recruiting his permanent successor. Meanwhile will put in place an interim chief executive, to be announced shortly and in time for a seamless transition before Rob leaves CACHE. We also have every confidence in the current strong senior team at CACHE.’
