Bright Horizons buys the Active Learning nursery group

Tuesday, July 21, 2015

Bright Horizons has acquired the Active Learning nursery group of nine settings.

The acquisition brings the total number of nurseries owned by Bright Horizons to 211, offering around 16,996 places.

Active Learning was founded by Bill Zuckerman, and the first nursery was opened in 2005 in Hornsey.

The group operates nine nurseries across London and Surrey, all of which are rated good or outstanding, and employs more than 200 members of staff. In 2013, Active Learning opened an 85-place nursery, JW3, in the new Jewish cultural centre in Hampstead.

Lydia Green, senior operations director at Bright Horizons, said, ‘We were attracted to Active Learning because of its reputation for highly imaginative, exciting learning environments for children, and the heart and passion demonstrated by its staff teams. We are delighted to bring together our two organisations and their shared purpose - to provide rich learning and play experiences that empower children to become confident, creative lifelong learners.’

Managing director of Active Learning Amanda Johnson said, ‘I am delighted for our staff and parents that we have become part of Bright Horizons. We share a common culture of excellence and I strongly believe that everyone will benefit hugely from the new opportunities that being part of Bright Horizons will bring.’
