Carole Edmond, managing director of Bright Horizons, has left the nursery group after six years in the role.

Ms Edmond, who oversaw the running of the nursery group’s 200 plus settings in the UK and Ireland, left the company in April to pursue other opportunities.

Taking over her role as managing director is the chief development officer of Bright Horizons Stephen Kramer.

Carole Edmond started her career in the early years sector in 1998 when she worked for Bupa, researching the childcare market. She oversaw a number of nursery acquisitions at Bupa, including the Teddies nursery chain of 18 settings.

In 2009, Ms Edmond moved to Bright Horizons after the group purchased Teddies. While working for Bright Horizons, she oversaw the acquisition of the Casterbridge nurseries in 2012 and in 2013 kidsunlimited.

Carole Edmond told Nursery World, ‘I have loved being part of an evolving and highly valuable sector. There has been much change, most of it for the better, the rest of it is still work in progress, but I do believe there is much to celebrate and be proud of in childcare and early years in the UK.’

She went on to say that she is currently focusing on her doctoral studies and spending more time with her daughter, before returning to work in the future.

A spokesperson for Bright Horizons said, ‘Along with the entire UK and Ireland team, Carole worked hard to build our reputation for excellence in all that we do across our organisation.  We wish her all the best in her future endeavours.’
