Name: Angela Foley Position: General Manager of Bright Beginnings Children's Centre at the University of Leeds

How did it feel to be awarded the British Empire Medal for outstanding services to childcare provision in higher education?

I was very surprised. I had to keep it a secret as I found out a few weeks prior to the Queen's Birthday Honors List in June. I feel very proud and honoured that the University of Leeds nominated me for the work I've done there.

How do you plan on celebrating?

We will be having a tea party at the nursery with all the children - I wanted to wait until I received my medal to tell them so that they had something physical to see and touch. We're all celebrating as a team, it means so much to have such a passionate group to work with. I'm glad everyone can be involved.

What inspires you to constantly be working to provide great childcare services?

It's about our children and it's our future. We need to be setting out the right foundation for the children as they grow up. Children should have the best of everything when it comes to their environment and resources, making sure they have people who are committed to providing exceptional support for them.
