The big picture: On the ward

Monday, August 25, 2014

Mothers were able to read to their premature and sick babies on neonatal wards after Booktrust gifted thousands of free children's books to hospitals across the country.

Copies of Super Duck by Jez Alborough were given to 59 neonatal units to help parents bond with their babies in challenging circumstances.

Booktrust's chief executive, Viv Bird, said, 'We are delighted that through our gift of children's books we have helped parents strengthen their bond with their baby while going through a difficult and stressful time.

'Books can make a big difference to people's lives, and sharing books is a good way for families to take time out.'
