Obesity and heart disease

04 March 2010, 12:00am

Obese children as young as three show signs of future heart disease, says a study of 16,000 children and teenagers.

The National Strategies: a review of impact found that evaluation of the programmes was also a weakness among many schools and local authorities. The Letters and Sounds programme was found to be one of the most popular of the National Strategies initiatives in the 33 primary schools visited. However, when asked about its impact, the schools often found it difficult to separate its effect from that of the many other actions to improve outcomes. The report is available at www.ofsted.gov.uk/publications.
