Inhalers in doubt

15 October 2009, 12:00am

Asthma inhalers may not work for some children and could even worsen their health, according to new research.

The study by Brighton and Sussex Medical School and the University of Dundee, published in this month's Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, found that children who carry the Arg16 gene and use the most commonly prescribed blue inhaler daily were at a 30 per cent greater risk of asthma attacks. But the study recommends children continue to use their inhalers until further research is done.
