Children at risk

Nursery World, 14 August 2008

'Invisible' young children in their thousands could be at risk of abuse as they are fostered privately through arrangements which are not reported to officials, a charity has claimed.

The warning from the British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF) came as new Government figures revealed a 14 per cent increase in the number of notifications of private fostering. But the charity estimated there to be up to 10,000 children in private fostering in England and Wales. The charity is to run a nationwide campaign to help raise awareness of private fostering from 19-25 January 2009.
