A headteacher who developed her nursery school into a thriving children's centre has won a prestigious teaching award.
Laura Brodie, head of Allens Croft Children's Centre in Birmingham, scooped the 2008 National College for School Leadership (NCSL) Award for Headteacher of the Year in a primary school in the West Midlands. Judges for the award described her work at the centre as 'something totally unique and rare'. Ms Brodie has been at the nursery school for more than ten years and oversaw the move to a children's centre in 2005 after integrating under-threes into the provision in 2001.
