Sense says local counciles are failing

Nursery World, 3 July 2008

The deafblind charity Sense says local councils are failing to identify deafblind children.

Its survey of 91 top-tier local authorities found that only a third of the estimated 2,100 deafblind children in the UK had been identified, and that almost half of those had not been offered a specialist assessment of their needs and less than a quarter received any one-to-one support outside school or nursery. For details visit www.sense.org.uk.
