FS Profile assessments point to future success

Clear evidence has emerged that children who do well in assessments at the age of five are more likely to go on to continue to achieve in primary school.

However, children who achieve the lowest scores at the end of their reception year are six times more likely than their peers to remain low achievers at the age of seven. An analysis carried out by the DCSF compared the results of a 10 per cent sample (around 48,000 children) of Foundation Stage Profile assessments in 2005 and Key Stage 1 in 2007 and found that there was a direct link...
