Flexible working extended

As many as 4.5 million more parents will have the right to request flexible working under new Government regulations.

Business secretary John Hutton said last week that flexible working rights will be extended to parents with children under 16 years old from next April, once they have been in a job for six months. Under current regulations only parents of children under six have the right to request flexible working. Flexible working arrangements include part-time work, compressed hours or flexi-time. Purnima Tanuku, chief executive of the National Day Nurseries Association, said, 'This way of working can have a real bonus for the nursery and encourage increased flexibility...
