Inspections stopped by Ofsted staff pay strike

More than 1,000 Ofsted workers staged a one-day walk-out over pay last Friday (16 May), halting inspections of early years and social care providers.

The workers are members of Unison and the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union. Members were balloted last month after a pay rise offer from Ofsted below average inflation (News, 10 April). Both unions voted overwhelmingly against the offer, and the strike includes an overtime ban from 19 to 30 May.
