Foundation cash 'too little'

An extra £5m in Foundation Phase funding from the Welsh Assembly Government has been criticised for being 'wholly inadequate' and 'too little, too late'.

Education minister Jane Hutt confirmed the increased funding for the national implementation of the Foundation Phase in September (News, 8 May). She said there was a disappointing response from some local authorities asked to undertake an audit for roll-out. Implementation of the curriculum for three- to seven-year-olds had been allocated £25m. But the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) said the extra money was 'too little, too late'.
