Extra funding for Welsh children

Nursery World, 8 May 2008

Local authorities in Wales will receive extra funding to deliver the Foundation Phase, minister for children Jane Hutt said last week.

The Welsh Assembly Government will re-evaluate funding for the programme, after collecting new information about local authorities' plans and discovering an upsurge in birth rates across Wales. Further financial modelling is expected to show more funding is required. Ms Hutt held a meeting with representatives from local government, the teaching unions, Estyn and early years specialists on 6 May.
