Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell claims to have hung up her hotpants and Union Jack boots for a new career as a children's author, said the Guardian.

The first of six books starring a ginger-haired girl called Ugenia Lavender was published last week. Ms Halliwell said of Ugenia, 'She's streetwise, sassy, has a sense of humour but importantly has a sense of right and wrong. I believe that Ugenia can conquer the world.'

A mother was fined £75 for littering after her four-year-old daughter dropped a piece of sausage roll on the pavement, reported the Mirror. Sarah Davies, 20, said, 'I crossed the road and was approached by two men in tracksuit bottoms. One came up and said he was from the council and I was to be fined for dropping litter. He said I would be arrested if I didn't give him my name and details, and started reading me my rights on the street.'
