Nurseries fight shortfall in free entitlement funds

Private nurseries in South Tyneside are fighting to receive full funding of the free entitlement after the local authority cut £30,000 in payments last month.
South Tyneside Council failed to pay 11 private nursery owners their full January to March funding for the NEG. They were paid £307 per child, although an agreement had been reached for £518 per child. After a campaign by nursery owners they received a further £120 per child last week.
