Living in UK could prove hazardous to mothers' health

Mothers who have immigrated to the UK are more likely to develop harmful or unhealthy habits the longer they stay in this country, according to new research.

A study of more than 8,500 women by the Institute of Child Health at University College London found that for every five years they spent in the UK, immigrant mothers were 32 per cent more likely to smoke during pregnancy and 5 per cent less likely to breastfeed for at least four months.
