Providing safe places for young people to take part in activities such as sport, dance and music was the aim of an initiative launched last week by Beverly Hughes, minister for Children, Young People and Families.
The £190m MyPlace scheme will offer young people an alternative to the 'street corner' culture and safe places to learn new skills. The Big Lottery Fund has been appointed to administer the scheme and award grants of up to £5m. Applications are open from 6 May, with the first round of grants expected to be announced inOctober.
