Advice 'vindicates visitors'

A health visitors' union has seized upon advice that mothers and young children deserve 'national consistency' in support for good diet and nutrition from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).

Last week NICE published guidance to address disparities in nutrition between low-income families and those who are better off. They include recommendations for the delivery of services by professionals including health visitors, nursery nurses and children's centre workers. The Community Practitioners' and Health Visitors' Association said the guidance provided further evidence of the crucial role of health visitors in child welfare.
