Europe's stance on additives criticised in UK

Health campaigners have condemned Europe's food safety watchdog for refusing to ban food additives that have been shown to cause hyperactivity in children.
A study by Southampton University last September found a direct link between artificial food colourings, plus the preservative sodium benzoate, and behavioural problems. But the European Food Safety Authority claimed that flaws in the way the research was carried out meant it was not possible to assess how widespread sensitivity to the additives may be in the general population.
