'Family-friendly' policies promised by David Cameron

20 March 2008, 12:00am

A raft of 'family-friendly' policies was promised by Conservative Party leader David Cameron as he let television cameras into his home last week. An ITV film crew joined the Camerons at the breakfast table to highlight the party's proposals, including spending £200m on creating 4,200 new health visitor posts, which would be paid for by scrapping current Labour plans to increase the number of Sure Start outreach workers. Speaking at the Tories' Spring Forum in Gateshead, Mr Cameron said he wanted 'a universal health visiting service'. He also pledged 12 months leave for new parents, to be shared between mothers and fathers as they chose.
