Families: Financial advice starts in pregnancy

Pregnant women are to receive advice on how to budget under a scheme devised by the Financial Services Authority.

The Parent's Guide to Money will be distributed by midwives to mothers in the early stages of pregnancy through a range of outlets, including children's centres, when it is rolled out nationally this summer. It gives advice on budgeting, welfare benefits and the cost of childcare and covers issues such as maternity leave and child trust funds. A report on trials of the pack said, 'The most common benefits mentioned were alerting readers to benefit entitlements and prompting them to think about saving and budgeting.' Further information...
