Education show: Early years playground is alive with the sound of music

Musical enjoyment is being taken outdoors with a new range of instruments devised for use in the playground.

The Freenotes range of musical instruments have been designed by Hand Made Places and will be launched at the Education Show in Birmingham this week. They aim to help young children develop their creative skills through free play or directed use, and allow for any combination of sounds to be easily played in harmony via a special five-note scale. The range includes the Manta Ray (pictured), an aluminium metallophone with a single row of bars, which replicate the piano keyboard. There are also ten-foot-high eye chimes, and tubano...
