Evening kids' club offered to parents down the pub

Melanie Defries, 20 December 2007, 12:00am

An evening kids' club for a large restaurant and pub group is being piloted by Tinies Childcare, one of the country's biggest nanny and childcare staff agencies.

The Tinies Kids Club for children aged between four and 12 years is undergoing trials at two sites for the Orchard Group, a restaurant and pub chain with more than 300 branches.

Parents visiting the Porridge Pot in Longbridge, Warwick, or the Salt Cellar in Middlewich, Cheshire, can leave their children in the care of qualified childcare practitioners who will operate the club and provide activities until 9pm seven days a week.

If the three-month trial is considered successful, it will be expanded to other Orchid Group sites aroud the country.

Oliver Black, director of Tinies, said, 'The clubs for the Orchid Group are a first and it has the potential to be a very big market. We want to see if it is a concept parents like and whether it helps to attract people to the restaurants.'

Dean Blake, manager of the Salt Cellar, said, 'It's something different for children to do, and nowhere around here is offering anything similar. The club is registered with Ofsted and the children can enjoy activities such as music, art or sports, while their parents have a meal. We've had a very positive response from parents so far.'
