Once again, Scotland looks set to come up with a system that those south of the border will eye with envy, as the new gradings for care services are unveiled (see news, page 8).

From April, nurseries, childminders and other childcare providers will be given at-a-glance report cards by the Care Commission that will be make it much easier to check the quality and performance of a service.
