Nutrition: Diets profiled in low-income families

Many children from deprived households have unhealthy diets with too much processed food and a shortage of fruit, vegetables and fibre, new research has found.
The study of the diets of low-income households, commissioned by the Food Standards Agency, claims to be the first-ever national survey of the diets of 3,728 people from the most deprived households in the UK. Children aged between two and ten were found to consume over a third more refined sugar than the maximum advised by the Government and food experts, with soft drinks being the main source.
