Ireland: Outcry as carers lose funding

Community childcare providers in the Irish Republic have warned that a new funding scheme will leave their services unsustainable.

Under the Community Childcare Subvention Scheme, being introduced in January, grants to not-for-profit providers will be issued on the basis of the benefit status of parents whose children attend their settings. Providers fear they will have to raise costs to make up for the loss of their current funding by long-term staffing grants. They say unsubsidised parents will be priced out of their services.
