Public and Private Provision: Council nurseries face going private or closing

Milton Keynes Council says that rapid growth in childcare provision by other providers means that there more than enough local childcare places. The council has put forward five options. They are: maintain current service but reduce costs; offer the service to be run by another provider; introduce different management arrangements for groups of nurseries, for example through children's centres or school companies; develop a co-operative consortium to manage current provision; or close the nurseries.
