Children's centres: PVI to take council places

Private sector providers have been asked by Stoke-on-Trent Council to take over daycare provision in seven of its children's centres because the nurseries have substantial vacancies, and it says this means they are are being subsidised to the tune of £1m a year.
Councillor Ian McLaughlan, portfolio holder for children and families, told Nursery World that one option could involve private providers closing their existing facilities and moving into daycare units in the children's centres.
