Children's Centres: Councils allowed more time to open centres

Some local authorities will be able to delay opening children's centres after March 2008 to meet 'a more realistic timescale'.
In its response to the Public Account Committee's report, which came out in July, the DCSF acknowledged that targets set for the first two phases of children's centres were 'challenging' and that 'some local authorities are taking longer to build up their capacity to deliver'.
