Child health: Obesity target is re-set

The Government has been forced to go back on its target for halting child obesity by 2010 as new figures reveal that a quarter of children are obese when they start school.
The statistics were a snapshot of data collected as part of the National Child Measurement Programme, a nationwide survey of children's weight in reception and year 6, commissioned by the Department of Health. The figures are not due until spring, but ten primary care trusts released them under the Freedom of Information Act.
