Early years activities foster family reading

A new campaign to encourage families to read together was launched last week in Hackney, London, by children's author Geraldine McCaughrean.
The one-year scheme Words Unite, unveiled as part of Family Learning Week (6-14 October), will involve activities and events in children's centres and nurseries, and also reach out to GP surgeries, community and voluntary groups, and libraries. The campaign is run by the Learning Trust, the not-for-profit company that runs the borough's education services and Team Hackney, its local strategic partnership. Learning Trust chief executive Alan Wells told Nursery World, 'This is to add on and build on what we're already doing in early years settings.'...
