Maths prowess predicts success in English

Children from poor backgrounds who do well in maths in infant school are more likely to do well in English as well at the age of 11, according to new research.

A study at London University's Institute of Education, tracked the progress of almost 10,000 pupils between the ages of seven and 11. Researcher Kathryn Duckworth said that the 'predictive power' of maths test results at the age of seven for disadvantaged children's success at the age of 11 was striking.
