End of NNI funds shuts nursery

A nursery chain is shutting down one of its children's centre settings because it says it is not financially viable without Government funding.

Buffer Bear Neighbourhood Nursery in Moulsecoomb Children's Centre in Brighton will close on 19 October. The 43-place nursery was originally opened as part of the Neighbourhood Nurseries Initiative (NNI) in 2003. Parents and staff were given a month's notice after the NNI funding came to an end this summer. Brighton and Hove City Council stepped in to provide temporary funding, as the nursery's main provision consists of funded places and respite care for children with special needs.
