Admission criteria revealed

Working parents are to be given the lowest priority in Edinburgh City Council's new banding system for free full-time nursery places.

One third of existing free council nursery places are being cut to save £167,000. The council has dropped plans to close 22 schools and six early years settings, but proposals to reduce 1,054 free full-time nursery places to 700 are set to go ahead between December and April 2008 (News, 21 September). A four-band system will act as a guide for settings when they allocate their free full-time places. Parents working and studying, classified in Band 4, will only be able to buy additional hours...
