Nurseries and childcarers around the country are being invited to join in National Bookstart Day on Friday 5 October, where the theme this year is 'jungle party', by organising events with the help of a free pack.
Bookstart is promoting the day with posters, bookmarks and stickers sporting a specially designed jungle image donated by The Gruffalo illustrator Axel Scheffler. The Bookstart concept originated and was piloted in Birmingham in 1992. It has grown rapidly since then, with affiliated schemes now running in many other countries in Europe to as far afield as Thailand, Australia and the Falkland Islands.
