Alarm at handover plan for centres

Parents in a London borough are campaigning to save their council-run children's centres following their discovery that the local authority is planning to hand them over to other providers.

Haringey Council, however, has denied that it had plans to privatise the running of children's centres. Parents at Stonecroft Children's Centre, one of five children's centres under consideration for changes, are compiling a petition to defend the provision. The Stonecroft centre, which opened in Hornsey in April this year, provides training for childminders and midwife and health services, along with a 55-place nursery.
