More childminders sought

A drop in the number of childminders has prompted a recruitment campaign in the Scottish capital.

The number of registered childminders in Edinburgh has fallen by over 10 per cent in the past four years. Care Commission statistics show that the number of registered childminders in Edinburgh fell from 430 in March 2004 to 374 in July this year. The Childminders Challenge campaign was adopted by the city's Chamber of Commerce and Working for Families, a Scottish Executive- funded initiative, after the demise of the Edinburgh Childcare Partnership in May. The partnership originally set up the campaign, which has so far succeeded in recruiting around 200 childminders....
