Laid-off childcarers still waiting for pay

Staff at a voluntary childcare group in Edinburgh are still without redundancy pay, four months after their funding was stopped by the city council.

Craigmillar Childcare Services (CCS) was forced to close when Edinburgh City Council ended its funding, after an independent auditor said that the service did not offer 'value for money' (News, 29 March). A meeting held at the Craigmillar Community Council two weeks ago, attended by many CCS employees, was told that the organisation needed £8,000 to go into liquidation and until then staff would be unable to claim redundancy pay. The council have refused to fund liquidation. Heated discussion at the meeting...
