Healthy as standard

I was intrigued to read that a nursery in Liverpool was given an award for giving children healthy food (Letters, 12 July).

While I commend the nursery for recognising the need to eat well from an early age, I find it strange that some nurseries do not have policies that only good-quality foods are given to the children in their care. As nurseries we have a responsibility to encourage children to eat a varied and healthy diet and hopefully build good habits that will last a long and healthy lifetime.
