Parents want guidance on how to support children's education

Teachers should help parents and extended families to play a bigger role in their child's education, according to research by Ofsted.

An Ofsted survey of 25 primary and secondary schools, found that the best schools identified how parents could contribute, evaluated the impact of initiatives and made improvements when necessary. Parents said they rarely had sufficient guidance on how to help their children learn more effectively. While most schools were involving parents, only three of the 25 schools were evaluating the benefits. The survey was conducted between September 2006 and February 2007 with a range of schools from rural and urban settings and different socio-economic groups....
