Ofsted could be too big for its own good, say MPs

Ofsted has been criticised by MPs for being too bureaucratic, amid fears about the wisdom of its expansion.
The Commons Education and Skills Committee chaired by Barry Sheerman last week said that it was concerned about Ofsted's ability to cope with its increased remit. In April, Ofsted became the Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills, taking on the Adult Learning Inspectorate, children's homes, fostering and adoption, and the Children's Rights director as well as local authority inspection functions.
