Our wages survey, published in last month's Professional Nanny, received widespread publicity in the general media. However, the impression people might have got from reading some of the reports was that all nannies are being paid at least £22,000 a year with a string of perks, including their own chauffeur and the use of their employer's private jet! Unfortunately the image of the overpaid 'nanny living in the lap of luxury' is one of those stereotypes, along with the 'nanny from hell', that the press likes to wheel out at the slightest pretext.
