Cookery goes on early curriculum

By Joyce Reid, Nursery World, 28 June 2001

Nursery children are discovering the joy of cooking with a nutritionist who hopes it will become a lifelong habit. Sarah Hope is being sponsored by Safeway to visit Flora Stevenson Nursery in Edinburgh (pictured), Broughton Nursery and St Mary's playgroup for weekly cookery lessons. She includes lots of fruit and vegetables in her recipes to encourage healthy eating, so the children make salads and dishes such as banana fruit fool, 'caterpillar kebabs' and cheese and tomato sticks. The children are encouraged to take their productions home to share with the family.
