The trade union Unison has called for all support staff in schools to be employed on the same national terms and conditions as all other local authority workers. A motion was passed last week at its annual conference in Brighton which said, 'There are huge variations in terms and conditions of employment, not only between authorities and schools but between different groups of staff in the same school. These staff are predominantly women, notoriously low paid and many are employed only in term-time and receive no money during school holidays.
