What a muddle you have got into with the news story on Ofsted's report on literacy and numeracy in reception classes ('Ofsted inspections flawed, say experts', 8 November). Pat Wills, national chair of Early Education, appears to dismiss the report because of her prejudices about the inspectors she mistakenly assumed had written it. A moderately careful scrutiny of the report would have confirmed that the inspections were conducted by Her Majesty's Inspectors. They were all, contrary to her claims, early years specialists in Ofsted's primary division who had many years' experience of both working in and inspecting early years settings.
